What is this red and gold dragon and phoenix object ?
Wooden, platform or stage with a pagoda style roof. 30 inches wide, 30 inches tall and 12 inches deep painted red with gold trim, two dragons at the top, two phoenix on the second roof and dragons on the columns that hold up the roof. a rail around the lower stage and two lion dogs facing each other. Does it belong to the Buddhist or Daoist faith?
Sounds Tibetan to me.
I don’t know much about that, but I do know that the pagoda was an architectural style originating in Nepal (birthplace of the Buddha) and quickly moved to China.
Tibetan Buddhists also believe in the presence of four major mythical creatures: the snow lion, dragon, tiger, and garuda (weird animal with wings). Phoenixes and other animals also pop up. You can read lots of different sites all with different meanings for these animals.
