This Onkyo HT S9100THX combines style and clarity with an impressive A/V (130W-Per Channel) digital receiver. It offers 192KHz/24-bit audio processing technology to create a wider, more enveloping surround-sound experience. It features Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio decoding. In addition, Onkyo also includes a sophisticated 7.1-Channel speaker system capable of delivering a full, clear, and tight sound response. It consists of two (2-Way) front satellite speakers, four (2-Way) surround speakers, one (2-Way) center speaker, and a powerful 290W down-firing 12-inch subwoofer.

Longtime THX buffs may point out that other THX-certified products are also designed to work together. But they are intended to be reasonably interchangeable; they aren’t necessarily designed and sold together as a dedicated single system. With this Onkyo model, you get all your THX joy in one box. THX further specifies that its I/S Plus system functions at a viewing (and presumably listening) distance of 8 feet.
Audyssey’s licensed contribution to the system is the 2EQ automatic setup and room-correction system. It measures the system’s acoustic output at two listening positions, which allows more than one listener to enjoy equalized fine-tuning. Another version of Audyssey, MultEQ, measures from six positions. Most one-brand proprietary room-correction systems measure from only one position. So 2EQ might be the happy medium for a budget product like this one.
Finally, the HT-S9100THX system’s HDMI 1.3a output is graced by Faroudja DCDi video processing, which is a well-known picture smoother and jaggie killer. This version of HDMI also allows the system to deliver a full panoply of surround codecs, including the new lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. It also has their improved (and underrated) lossy cousins, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio.

HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. With playback specifications that meet the standards of professionals, it features HD component video (2x inputs/1x output) switching for high-resolution low-distortion video reproduction.
Remote Interactive (RI) capability enables you to simply connect your iPod to your receiver through Onkyo’s RI Dock option for the iPod. Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component flowing through the receiver.
